I am Irem from Istanbul, Turkey. I have started to the Architectural Design Master Program right after graduating from Architecture at Istanbul Technical University in 2014. Following my change in major from Urban and Regional Planning to Architecture, my interest of urban texture and cultural networks has been shaped. During my undergrad years, I have worked on diverse scales and concepts both on design studios and internships. Besides school, I got the opportunity to join various workshops, exhibitions and events.
After graduation from Architecture, my main purpose was to experience different doing ways of architecture and design. Parallel to my first semester of graduate school, I’ve worked as an Architect at Fields Studio, Istanbul for 3 months. I’ve worked as the editor and social media director of the Creative Initiative at De Olifantenkooi | Fil Kafesi International Workshop Serie which happened in Ankara and Breda. Articles covering those events, containing interviews and reports I’ve done, were published in XXI, the leading architecture and design magazine of Turkey.
October 2014, I’ve joined NOW., an architecture and urban culture agency. Since then, I’ve been working as an architect and event designer. NOW. designs creative event series and spaces for service & entertainment industry, whose purpose to improve urban life by using the knowledge of team’s architectural background. Besides its own showcase events, it works with global and local brands.
Projects that I’ve been involved in NOW have been turned into the main focus of my academic studies. Currently, I am working on my thesis “decipher of the relationship dynamics between the notions of crowd, space and event; search for an alternative spatial experience”
Design Studies Program at Parsons was kind of a surprise for me. After I find out the details about the program, I loved the passion of search for new ways of design thinking and interdisciplinary environment. I believe being in NYC and more specifically Design Studies Program would really help me to shape my future plans and can’t wait to start this new chapter of my life.Tags: Design Studies, student profiles, Student Spotlight
