On April 7th and 8th, 2017, the Parsons/Cooper Hewitt MA program on the History of Design and Curatorial Studies held its Twenty-Sixth Annual Graduate Student Symposium in the History of Design. This year’s theme, “Design and Displacement,” attracted an array of paper topics, ranging from Huguenot watchmaking to modern day graffiti and its relation to urban renewal and gentrification. The Catherine Hoover Voorsanger Keynote address, delivered by Dr. Jeremy Aynsley (Professor of Design History at the University of Brighton), explored the life and work of the prolific Austrian commercial graphic artist Julius Klinger, whose career traversed international borders and was interrupted by Nazi persecution.
Much is to be discovered from the student presentations and panel discussions that unfolded.Click here to watch the 2017 symposium in its entirety.
