Parsons School of Design's MA Fashion Studies
Meet Our New Students!
School is in full effect here at Parsons, and we’re gearing up for a great academic year. We’ve accepted some amazing students and can’t wait to get to know them more and be a part of the great work we know they will create. Below get to know six of our 29 1st year students, who share a love for Diana Vreeland quotes, comfortable and minimalistic clothes and agree that Parsons is, hands down, the best fashion school around.
- Born and raised in Athens by two loving parents who were both deeply involved professionally in the clothing industry.
- Worked at Marketing Department of Marks & Spencer, where her keen interest in fashion combined with business studies and interest in art, found a place to blossom.

Why Parsons?
Parsons has perfect curriculum, which I expected, is one of the best fashion schools in the world.
What do you love about New York?
I love New York because it is the capital of fashion. Also, I can meet lots of awesome fashion people.
Favorite thing to wear:
I like minimalism: dresses, pants, t-shirts. My favorite designer is Alexander Wang!
Favorite quote on fashion:
“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” — Coco Chanel
Kelly Madera
Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles
Bachelor’s in Fine Arts in Communication Studies
Fun Facts:
- Has worked with Diesel, PMK*BNC, LinkedIn and DataStax
- Started a blog and began moonlighting fashion and op-ed pieces at www.kellmenow.com
Why Parsons?
Parsons is #1. NYC is #1. Need I say anything else?
What do you love about New York?
What don’t I love about New York? That would probably be a shorter list. It’s an exciting place, the diversity, the open-mindedness of it all attracts the people that ultimately end up living here. It’s a special place.
Favorite thing to wear:
Boyfriend jeans
Favorite quote on fashion:
“You can never be overdressed or overeducated.” — Oscar Wilde
Larry Easley
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design
Why Parsons?
I just received my Bachelor’s degree this past spring, but felt that I still needed a bit more leverage to take me where I really want to be one day. My friend convinced me to apply to Parsons and, to my joy, I actually was accepted! I already have a technical, skills-based degree, so the idea of studying fashion from a more intellectual perspective is very appealing. And when you can count the likes of Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs as fellow alumni, it’s kind of hard NOT to choose Parsons.
What do you love about New York?
The diversity! Every race, religion, social status, sexuality, language … everyone is represented here. It’s like a microcosm of the entire world.
Favorite thing to wear:
I live in denim shirts and jackets, and I’m a sucker for a good boot.
Favorite quote on fashion:
“A little bad taste is like a nice splash of paprika. We all need a splash of bad taste—it’s hearty, it’s healthy, it’s physical. I think we could use more of it. No taste is what I’m against.” — Diane Vreeland
Farideh Arbanian
Bachelor of Arts in Communication Design
Fun facts:
- Actively involved within the city’s fashion industry by interning at Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang this past year.
Why Parsons?
I chose Parsons for my MA because my original plan was to enroll here for my undergraduate program. I had visited Parsons for a couple of summer courses in the past, but it was always part of my master plan (no pun intended!) to come back.
What do you love about New York?
I know every single persons says the exact same thing, but to me, it all comes down to it’s energy. It can be daunting at times, but it’s crazy in a good way and I love it!
Favorite thing to wear:
I hate these kind of questions… My whole closet? I don’t know! I can’t choose! Haha
