How is taste determined? Co-authored by ADHT’s Jonathan Bean, Postdoctoral Fellow in Design Studies, and Zeynep Arsel, Assistant Professor of Marketing at Concordia University in Montreal, “Taste Regimes and Market Mediated Practice,” published in Journal of Consumer Research, suggests taste is a “continually performed” practice. By analyzing seven years of Apartment Therapy content and conducting interviews with twelve blog readers-participants, the study explores the creation of taste by way of a three-part process—problematizaton, ritualization, and instrumentalization—which “continuously orchestrate” objects, doings, and meanings.
