The Russian edition of Prof. Francesca Granata’s book Experimental Fashion: Performance Art, Carnival and the Grotesque Body (Bloomsbury) will be published by the New Literary Review. In occasion to its publication, Prof. Granata will give a talk on Friday December 18th at 7pm (Moscow time). The talk will be in English and simultaneously translated into Russian.
The talk will discuss the proliferation of grotesque imagery and bodies out of bounds in fashion design at the turn of the millenium. Discussing the work of experimental designers such as Rei Kawakubo and Martin Margiela and performance artists such as Leigh Bowery, it will investigate how this proliferation can be understood in relation to changes in gender roles, normative sexuality and the AIDS crisis.
