Global Issues in Design and Visuality in the 21st Century: Culture
Spring 2012
Tuesdays, 6:00 pm
Tishman Auditorium, 66 West 12th Street
Global Issues is a lecture series, open to the the community, which is designed to identify the broad issues that are shaping design and art in the 21st century. It focuses on the concept of culture and its
dynamics in light of the radical changes brought about by globalization. In a world where people move more often than ever before and technology circulates ideas and goods faster than ever before, this lecture series views the resulting cultural fusions and collisions as source of new understandings, not just as a catalyst for conflict. Beginning with an introduction to cultural theory, the course proceeds to an examination of the ways in which design and art mirror the state of contemporary culture and the ways in which they critique and change culture.
