For an afternoon at the 92nd Street Y Tribeca, Laura Auricchio will pair up with food historian Alexandra Leaf to explore the food, art, and culture of the late-19th century Impressionist period in France. Professor Auricchio will examine the shift from Realism and the rise and influence of Impressionism, while Alexandra Leaf will discuss France’s vibrant culture of cafes, picnics, and restaurants, and their influence on the Impressionists. Guests will view a demonstration of how absinthe was traditionally consumed, drink a glass themselves, and enjoy other treats that are true to the time.
