As part of The Vera List Center for Art and Politics, ADHT Assistant Professor Laura Auricchio has published a response to NY Times critic Roberta Smith.
On November 5, 2009, Roberta Smith delivered a talk entitled “Criticism: A Life Sentence” at the 2009 AICA/USA Distinguished Critic Lecture at The New School.
Laura Auricchio’s response, published in February at http://www.veralistcenter.org/callandresponse/?p=1049, explores questions regarding the role of the critic. Who reads criticism? Who reads reviews? Is the role of the critic, Auricchio asks with urgency, “to educate the educated”?
