A panel on fashion criticism with Robin Givhan (the first fashion critic to receive a Pulitzer Prize) and Stefano Tonchi (editor-in-chief of W magazine). It is moderated by Francesca Granata, Assistant Professor of Fashion Studies at Parsons the New School for Design and editor of Fashion Projects. The panel celebrates Fashion Projects’s new issue, which is devoted to the subject of fashion criticism and features interviews with Givhan and Tonchi as well as Judith Thurman (the New Yorker), Guy Trebay (the New York Times), Suzy Menkes (the International Herald Tribune), and others leading fashion critics.
Fashion Projects was founded by Granata in 2005. It has received grants from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. The issue, the journal’s fourth print edition, was praised by the Columbia Journalism Review for covering “the discipline, accessibly, from an academic perspective.” It includes contributions from alumni of Parsons MA Fashion Studies and MA in the History of Decorative Arts and Design and was designed by Sarah Smith—a graduate of Parsons BFA in Communication Design.
The panel is made possible by the School of Art and Design History and Theory and the MA Fashion Studies program.
