This one day academic symposium presented research on influential women in New York fashion retailing, while also considering broader questions of the women, power and the business of fashion.

Papers:

Caroline Rennolds Milbank: Fashion historian, author, curator and appraisor

Dr. Stephanie Amerian: Professor of U.S. History, Santa Monica College

Dr. Michael Mamp: Assistant Professor of Fashion Merchandising and Design, Central Michigan University

Dr. Hazel Clark & Lauren Sagadore: Professor of Design Studies and Fashion Studies & MA Fashion Studies Graduate, Parsons School of Design

Their work respectively investigates the history of New York Fashion, Dorothy Shaver of Lord & Taylor, Hortense Odlum and Mildred Custin of Bonwit Teller, and Henri Bendel’s Geraldine Stutz. 

Roundtable Discussion:

Former Bendel’s employees Marion Greenberg and Robert Rufino discuss their time as a buyer and visual display director at Henri Bendel in the 1970s and 1980s. In conversation with Professor Hazel Clark.
