Sixties Dress Only

book titleBased on an ethnographic study of the contemporary mod and sixties-scene the book explores the appeal and consumption of 1960s fashion among youth and adolescents in the early 21st century. Fashioning their life-style exclusively in the style of the past, wearing sixties dress only either vintage or DIY and furnishing their homes with the material survivals from the past the members of this scene achieve a time-warp into the 1960s, stepping partly outside the rhythm of fast fashion. With its in-depth analysis of the actual body and consumption practices that go into the making of 1960s appearances the book sheds light on the materiality of youth cultural style practices involved in the consumption of time and history as a means to construct a sense of individuality and authenticity as well as social belonging.
